As a physician, I currently care for adult patients of all ages. I have a special interest and experience in men's health, including extensive experience in caring for gay men, and those at risk for or those who have HIV. I have some experience with people who identify as transgender as well. For transgender patients, I will work closely with other specialists as needed to deliver comprehensive primary care along with hormone therapy when desired and indicated. I strive to stay well-informed on issues that increasingly affect my patients as they get older, including frailty and polypharmacy. While my practice mainly focuses on preventive care, I have many years of experience in the ER and urgent care, and am very comfortable diagnosing and treating acute conditions. When specialist referrals are needed for patients, I am here to help them navigate the system. And I will continue to work with them to provide additional education, perspective and coordination of care as needed.

I became a urologist because of my combined love of science and enjoyment in having face to face interactions with people of all walks of life. Being a urologist allows me to help people live their fullest lives. I enjoy helping my patients and serving as resource to talk about very sensitive medical conditions.\n\nIn addition to my general urology practice, I am also a fellowship-trained reconstructive urologic surgeon. My clinical focus includes the management of urethral stricture disease, treatment of genitourinary fistula, penile cancer, urinary diversion, ureteral reconstruction, neurogenic bladder, treatment of radiation injuries to the urinary tract, erectile dysfunction, male urinary incontinence and treatment of traumatic injuries to the genitourinary tract. I serve as the medical director for clinical quality improvement at HealthPartners, focusing on surgical quality and patient safety.

I graduated from the University of Minnesota Medical School and completed my residency with the University of Minnesota Obstetrics and Gynecology department. I was a member of the AOA Honor Society in medical school and I™m board certified. I enjoy practicing in the clinic, surgery and labor and delivery. Dr. Renee Donahue Carlson, MD is an Infectious Disease Specialist who practices in Saint Louis Park, MN. She is 43 years old.

I am an infectious disease doctor with a special interest in AIDS and HIV infections. Diagnosing infectious diseases requires skills similar to those of a detective. One has to figure out the important symptoms, put clues together and then come up with the best "suspects," or pathogens. We also have to find an effective treatment regimen for the patient. In my training in different parts of the world, I have always enjoyed learning about microbiology and infections. These interests have made the specialty of infectious disease a natural choice for me \n\nThe HIV /AID pandemic started during my medical training and has continued to increase worldwide, especially in Africa and in minority communities here in the U.S. The ignorance and misconception about the disease has caused there to be a lot of stigma among the general population regarding HIV/AIDS, giving me great concern. This compelled me to be part of the HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment network. \n\nI like working with people from different parts of the world and I always strive to resolve or minimize the impact of their infections. I also provide culturally sensitive care to diverse communities, including LGBTQ individuals, refugees and immigrants.

I enjoy working in the infectious disease specialty because it is a challenging field that is constantly changing. I have to be informed about infections happening close to home and around the world. I enjoy getting to know my patients, and I especially enjoy seeing them get back to the things they love to do after successful treatment. \n\nI have spent time working in Africa and South America, learning from the people there and studying infections from those areas. I hope to be able to continue to help those who are underserved medically.\n\nWhen I am not at work, I can be found coaching sports for my children or helping out at our church. \n\nI am a member of the Infectious Disease Society of America (IDSA), and like the other physicians in our infectious disease group, I follow the IDSA guidelines in the diagnosis and treatment of Lyme disease. I also provide culturally-sensitive care to diverse communities, including GLBT individuals, refugees and immigrants.

My area of expertise includes both general infectious disease and the primary care of individuals with HIV. I am also interested in travel medicine and infection prevention. I derive a great deal of satisfaction in caring for patients with the wide array of interesting diseases that I come across in my specialty.
