Many years ago, when I was contemplating going into medicine as a career I was often asked why. My response was typically because I wanted to help others. Throughout my career, that has been my goal ultimately to help those patients seeking my care. I have found it is best to begin by treating the patient as a person, an individual. Each patient should be treated with respect. I try to provide the same high-quality care for all of my patients regardless of age, health status, or other factors.

Sanjay Godara, MD, FCCP, is a board-certified and fellowship-trained pulmonologist with Pulmonary Associates in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Dr. Godara earned his medical degree from Sawai Man Singh Medical College in India, where he also completed an internship and residency. He then completed additional residency training at Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where he served as chief resident. Following his residency, he fulfilled a fellowship in pulmonology at Allegheny General in Pittsburgh and in critical care at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City.Dr. Godara is board certified in Pulmonary Disease, Critical Care Medicine, and Sleep Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine. He provides comprehensive care for a wide variety of pulmonology conditions from asthma to pneumonia and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). He provides services including breathing treatments, asthma management, bronchoscopy, management of COPD, treatment for respiratory infections, and spirometry testing. He prides himself on working one-on-one with his patients to develop individualized treatment plans to improve his patients' quality of life. Dr. Godara is a fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians and is a member of the American Society of Sleep Medicine and the Society of Critical Care Medicine. In addition, he has been published in numerous peer-reviewed journal publications.Outside of practicing medicine, Dr. Godara enjoys reading and traveling.
