Sertraline HCl is in the SSRI (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor) class of antidepressants. It boosts levels of the neurotransmitter serotonin. Serotonin plays a role in mental health and well-being. Doctors prescribe sertraline for depression, panic attacks, and other conditions. Zoloft is the brand name.
