A:

Spironolactone uses include treating high blood pressure and fluid retention, or edema. Spironolactone for edema works by helping the kidneys rid the body of excess fluid. It also treats a condition called hyperaldosteronism. By blocking aldosterone receptors, spironolactone counteracts high levels of aldosterone in this condition.
