A:

Spironolactone is a potassium-sparing diuretic. It helps your body get rid of excess fluid while keeping potassium. Spironolactone uses include treating high blood pressure and edema. It blocks aldosterone receptors, so it can also treat high levels of aldosterone, or hyperaldosteronism.
