Hydrochlorothiazide is a water pill, or diuretic. It helps rid the body of extra water and salt. Hydrochlorothiazide uses include treating high blood pressure and fluid retention (edema). You can get edema from heart, kidney or liver disease. Certain drugs, such as steroids and hormones, can also cause it.
