Care Philosophy

This content was provided by Valerie Sheehan "Are you struggling just to get through the day? Do you look to others for approval? Do you feel uncomfortable in your own skin? Do you lack the courage to be your "authentic self"? Have you been acting "as if" you're okay, but really feel like you're "not good enough", "defective", and "unlovable"? Do you feel hopeless? I'd like to help. I am a compassionate and interactive therapist who will provide a safe,  non-judgemental and client-centered environment where you can safely explore your feelings, and develop curiosity about your life. Let me help you rediscover your strengths, your authentic self and your unique truth.I've been trained in various forms of psychotherapy and use an integrative and eclectic approach to treatment. I specialize in EMDR, a powerful therapy that results in deep, lasting emotional and behavioral change. I deeply believe in my clients' potential for growth, and in their ability to make positive changes in their lives. Sometimes people spend years in "talk therapy". They learn to intellectually understand their problems, however, talking and intellectual understanding doesn't necessarily heal, or result in change. Unprocessed memories of painful experiences can become literally frozen in our brains. Our current symptoms and dysfunctional feelings and behaviors are simply manifestations of these unprocessed past experiences. Once these frozen memories are processed, they no longer exert influence over our present lives. We must heal the past in order to change the present. EMDR enables powerful emotional healing to take place.

I would like to help you develop feelings of self compassion, which I believe is crucial and necessary in order for healing and growth to take place.
