Accepting new patients
Stuart Andrew Sullins, OD is a native of Athens and was educated in both the Athens City and McMinn County schools. He attended and received a Bachelor’s of Science in Zoology from Auburn University in 1997. He was a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity and Alpha Epsilon Delta pre-medical honorary. Dr. Sullins received his Doctorate of Optometry from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, School of Optometry in 1997. He received the ALCON Excellence Award and the VSP Excellence in Primary Care. Upon completion of his Doctor’s degree he completed a one-year residency in ocular disease at Northeastern State College of Optometry, Tahlequah, OK. In addition to his personal clinical training, Dr. Sullins did mentoring and clinical teaching of the optometry students. Dr. Sullins returned home to practice with his father, brother and sister-in-law in the practice that his grandfather began in 1939. He is a full partner and Chief of Optical Services. His responsibilities include the high technology lens and contact lens part of the examination experience. Dr. Sulllins keeps the practice up-to-date on new thinking related to contemporary eye care instrumentation. He is a member of the medical staff and has clinical privileges at Woods Memorial Hospital and Sweetwater Hospital. He has special interests in Low Vision Rehabilitation. Dr. Sullins is active in his community, serving as a member of the Athens-McMinn County YMCA Board of Directors, the Athens Chamber of Commerce Board, the Springbrook Golf and Country Club Board, and the Staff-Parish Relations Committee at Keith Memorial United Methodist Church, where he also teaches senior high Sunday School. He is a member of Athens Kiwanis Club, and he assists in the coaching of the McMinn County High School Tennis Team. Dr. Sullins and his wife Amy, Instructor of Secondary Education at Tennessee Wesleyan College who is completing her PhD at the University of Tennessee, have two sons George and Andy. Dr. Sullins’ hobbies are golf and tennis. They are wonderful assets to the Athens community.
