Dr. Steven Hamvay first became introduced to Chiropractics soon after being involved in an auto accident at the age of 12. Suffering from a broken leg, he spent 3 months in a full-leg cast followed by 6 months in a walking brace. Because of the severity of the fracture and its unique place, the growth of that leg slowed and atrophy to the musculature ensued. It wasn't until months of increasing and debilitating back pain, that he was finally sent to his first chiropractor. Although it took a few months, his back pain had resolved, strength was restored to his leg and proper function was regained to his whole body. After high school, Dr. Hamvay attended Orange Coast College, where he spent a number of years pursuing education in a wide variety of fields, including: Physics, Engineering, Chemistry, and Behavioral Sciences. Despite the interest in these fields, his true passion was rooted in the understanding of anatomy and physiology, in which he honored in several times. Following a terrific "rollover" accident in his early 20's, and yet another inspiring visit to a chiropractor, he realized that interest was now his calling. He earned his Doctorate of Chiropractic degree from Cleveland Chiropractic College of Los Angeles in 2006, where he broadened his studies from the required curriculum to learn advanced techniques, such as, Sacro-Occipital Technique, Thompson Drop, Gonstead, Flexion-Distraction, Graston, and Active Release. He was certified by the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners and received a top 10 percentile score in the anatomy and physiology portions. In addition to completing all 4 portions of the required examination, he also completed portion 5, which involved the studies of Physio-Therapy. Dr. Hamvay began his career in Los Angeles working in a high volume personal injury clinic before pursuing an independent career with Heller Chiropractic. Not long after, it became apparent that the hectic Los Angeles environment was not a healthy one. He and his future wife began to look into other opportunities across the US and internationally until finally deciding on an opportunity in the wonderful city of Columbia, SC. He spent the next 6 years as the clinical director of 2 separate clinics including one that received the high honor of being Best in Franchise in 2012 out of 350 HealthSource clinics throughout the nation. Although he loved everything about his life in South Carolina, owning a franchised clinic just didn't make him happy. He feels that caring for patients is a privilege and a patient's acceptance of care needs to be earned. When the opportunity to purchase Motion Chiropractic was presented to him, he and his wife revelled at the idea of moving to Austin, TX and owning a practice where he could own an independently run, wellness-based clinic that offers him and his patient's more focused time and care. Dr. Hamvay became the current owner of Motion Chiropractic in July of 2016. He lives here with his beautiful wife Marisa, his weird little dog Stella and his "slightly" lazy cat Mittens. In his free time, you can find him on any of the great surrounding golf courses with his friends. He and Marisa are also avid football fans and will always be out rooting on their favorite teams: Washington Redskins, Buffalo Bills, South Carolina Gamecocks, and of course, the UT Longhorns!!!!

I believe that caring for patients is a privilege, and that patient's acceptance of care needs to be earned. Patients deserve better than the typical cookie cutter service that they've all unfortunately experienced at one time or another. My approach has always been different. I don't presume to know everything about someone's unique condition on the first visit alone and make just one treatment plan. It needs to evolve as that patient's condition evolves, which is why I take more time on each and every visit to find all the potential imbalances; whether it be mechanical, functional, structural, chemical, dietary, etc. My treatments are dictated purely by the ever-evolving condition that is unique to each individual.
