Robert Smith's bio

This content was provided by Robert Smith "Smith Psychotherapy Associates, S.C. was started in 2013 after Robert Smith was in practice for 15 years on his own as a clinical social worker. Robert has worked in mental health and addictions hospital treatment programs for over 35 years. His son Daniel joined him as a clinical social worker working with adolescents and adults, and his niece Rachel joined him as a counseling psychologist. She is also an Associate Director, Applied Practice at the Chicago School of Professional Psychology in Chicago. We have a special interest in treating anxiety and depression, psychological trauma and abuse, stress, addiction, insomnia, and pain. We work with individuals, couples, and families. We also provide clinical hypnosis for a variety of problems, interpersonal psychotherapy, cognitive and dialectical behavioral therapies, and our focus is on developing the health and mental health of each person we see. Robert is on the Allied Health Staff at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital Department of Psychiatry where he is a part-time instructor of psychotherapy to the Residency Program, and sees patients connected with the Hospital. He is also on the Affiliate Professional Staff at Northshore University Health System Department of Psychiatry where he provides psychotherapy to patients from the Hospital system. He is also affiliated with Presence Health Care and accepts their insurance plans. Robert is a past Board Member and Northeastern Illinois District Chair of the Illinois Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers 2015-2017."

Care Philosophy

This content was provided by Robert Smith "Our approach to treatment is based on each individual patient's presentation of the problems or concerns that they are currently experiencing.  Each person is unique, so treatment is individualized based on your specific needs.  We work together with you in a collaborative fashion, with respect, in a private honest manner.  We follow the codes of ethics of the National Association of Social Workers, American Psychological Association and Mental Health state and federal laws.  Our goal is to provide you with the best care in a solution-oriented manner.  To do so, we will ask you to tell us how you view your problems and concerns, and what you would specifically like help with to change or manage your situation. In that way we will have a clear direction to go towards. We will be patient with you and not judge what you tell us."
