I bring a wealth of experience and training to my practice as a psychologist and psychotherapist serving people seeking help and guidance in their lives. What stands out most from feedback given by patients I have worked with in my 30 years of clinical experience is the depth of insight and understanding I was able to offer them within a professional relationship that showed compassion and a willingness to listen in a nonjudgmental way to their concerns. On countless occasions I have been told by patients that what set me apart from therapists they had previously seen was my ability to be actively engaged in offering insight into the nature of their problem and guidance in helping them formulate the means to solve them. These qualities, insight, compassion, and the desire to help others, are what led me to choose this profession. My personal qualities as a psychologist are supported by a depth of education and training in the field of professional psychology as a clinician and scientist. My formal training includes a doctorate in counseling psychology with a cognate in clinical psychology, awards in clinical psychology and research and measurement, years of supervised training as a psychotherapist and postdoctoral education as well as internship experience that includes extensive coursework at the Western New England Psychoanalytic Institute, intensive training in Emotionally Focused Psychotherapy, and formal training and education in cognitive and behavior therapy, professional ethics, and hypnotherapy. My professional experience spans diverse fields that include developmental disabilities, forensics, and geriatrics, and I have served as a consultant for program management and clinical supervision. In addition to my professional experience as a practitioner, I have 30 years of experience teaching in colleges and universities and have published papers of both a theoretical and empirical nature in professional, peer-reviewed journals. On a more personal note, I enjoy spending time with friends and family and I am an avid advocate of health and personal fitness. As an advocate for making a contribution to our community, I have for many years volunteered my time working for The Humane Society, the arts community, public media, and recreation. I am an avid sports fan and lover of the humanities, especially art, music, history, and philosophy, and maintain an active lifestyle playing tennis, ballroom dancing, and gardening.
