Dr. McCourt's bio

This content was provided by Dr. McCourt "Raised in Centralia, WA, Dr. McCourt was brought up to be a concert and jazz trombonist, yet yielded to his desires to adventure in his early twenties. He did everything from being a lift operator in Vail, Colorado to joining the Army and serving as both an Airborne Artilleryman and a trombonist for the 82nd Airborne Band. After this stint, he returned and finished undergraduate training in foreign language and outdoor recreation and then worked in the high mountain desert teaching adolescents wilderness survival skills. It was during this time that he became interested in medicine. In medical school he excelled academically and was a presidential scholar. He graduated Cum Laude and did his residency training at one of the most highly regarded foot and ankle residencies in the country: Kaiser San Francisco. He is Board Certified in Foot Surgery by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery, a Fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons and an Associate the American Academy of Podiatric Sports Medicine. He has lectured locally and nationally including the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons annual scientific meeting, garnering an honorable mention for new research. He has published peer-reviewed articles with topics including ankle arthroscopy, total ankle joint replacement and cement spacers for large segmental bone defects. Dr. McCourt enjoys participating in endurance sports, especially cycling and running. In medical school and through residency he would do at least a century ride (100 miles) per year with the longest being a double metric century (200km) and dabbled in triathalons. More recently he has been running distances up to 50k, having completed the McKenzie River Ultramarathon, and the Siskyou Outback 50k as well as any distance up to this (5k-26.2). He spends his winter weekends on Alpine and telemark skis for the Willamette Pass Ski Patrol...and daily loves spending time with his lovely wife and 2 children. He also collects unique automobiles."

Patient Comments (2)

I had to wait 20 minutes after sitting in hoe exam room to be seen. His bedside manner was terrible and he was rushed through my entire appointment. When I voiced my concerns, he didn't seem very interested and kept suggesting expensive inserts only he could make for me or shock wave that was $400...more

This seems to be the third review you've given me, all with the same rating. I'm sorry that I was not able to help you...I almost wonder if I saw you at all, as most of what you say is really the opposite of what I'm like. I constantly get feedback that if anything, I spend too much time with people so I'm not sure what happened there; maybe I had a very sick pt. The inserts that we offer people on their first appt are 45 and we allow people to return them even if they don't like the color.

The doctor did not address my concerns and was preoccupied with getting an x-ray before anything else, including insurance approval. My minor concerns should not have required an x-ray: toenail pain (either shoe irritation or fungal), possible plantar fasciitis, dropped arch and shoe...more

I am saddened by your concerns. please understand that the foot is first a structural entity, and for me to really start to address the mechanical function requires X-rays. Additionally, what most people don't consider is that if I were to miss a tumor as a source of pain, that would not meet the standard of care! So whatever podiatrist you see next, understand that if they don't get X-rays, you probably aren't getting the whole picture. best of luck, and sorry we weren't able to help.
