The bio written below describes how and why I chose this field. Remember, where there is healing and trust, there is HOPE! "I can recall, since a young age, I've always had a deep level of compassion and desire to help others, I knew I was meant to work in the helping field. A compassion that is not learned and cannot be learned through a text book. Initially, when first starting college, I was determined to be a nurse, however, something was missing, my passion was meant for another field. I began to see the impact of mental health and addiction within the community, there was a need. I observed negative impacts to the person and family systems. The impacts included broken homes, divorce, domestic violence, abuse, fear from resulting from deep trauma and substance abuse and I also realized there was stigma, making it difficult to seek help. Mental Health and Addiction has impacted all backgrounds, mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, sons, daughters, entire families and individuals who serve in the military, leaving veterans feeling hopeless, law enforcement and nurses, and many more serving the community. I discovered that no one is immune to life issues. I was fascinated with human behavior, human resilience and the capability for individuals' process, adapt, cope and learn heal, leading me to study human behavior, and choosing this path, to become a therapist. I have observed those impacted by crime, health issues, broken hearts, grief all from the thing called "life." I compare this as being similar to how one would spend hours to complete a puzzle, working patiently and slowly to gain the desired result, one must fit all the pieces together before achieving the desired outcome. Every puzzle is different, some more challenging than others, but none are the same. Once I saw the impacts of these issues being left untreated I then realized the definition of 'Insanity', "doing the same thing over and over expecting different results. One must figure out why one does the same thing over and over, and it begins with understanding human nature, human behavior and history, then getting to the core of the problem. This often requires breaking down the stigma in society that is often attached to mental health addiction and various life issues. Once that courageous step is taken the pieces begin to fit, and we learn the story. I began to commit my time and studies in this field, in doing so I quickly learned that no text book alone can prepare for or make someone a successful therapist, it takes passion, patience, encouragement and the ability to listen."
