John is also published as a research biologist and a National Science Foundation Scholar and he has a passion for helping people get healthy with acupuncture. Some people might call acupuncture magic, John knows it is science. John understands the physiology of the human body and serves his patients with science of acupuncture, herbal medicine, and nutrition. John knows that true health doesn't come just by treating symptoms with prescriptions and procedures. There is a time and a place for all medicine. At The WellBridge Clinic, John and his team are on a mission to provide people with corrective care so that they get better, stay better and have fun. John began this journey after taking a ride in an ambulance on a backboard for a neck injury at football practice. John spent the next 7 years going to his chiropractor once a week and swallowing 800mg of ibuprofen every day. He had chronic pain in his neck, jaws, back and had a constant headache. Chiropractic helped but clearly wasn't a long term, stand-alone solution. By 1996, John was a national Science Foundation Scholar and publishing research as a Systems Biologist at the University of Colorado. At that point he was still suffering when his mother, a queen of practicality, ironically suggested he try acupuncture. John reluctantly took his mother's advice and made and appointment with an acupuncturist. The acupuncture treatments were amazing and after a few visits John felt better than that football practice in 1989. Keep in mind that John is a scientist driven by curiosity and upon continuing with his research, he began to realize that he was asking the wrong questions. As a scientist, he wanted to know more about how acupuncture works. In 1996 there wasn't much research on acupuncture, so within a year John had a plane ticket to Singapore followed by China and Japan. He spent the next 10 years living and working in Asia so that he could learn more as a student, apprentice, and intern. During those 10 years John worked as a science writer, bar tender, environmental consultant, public school teacher, ESL instructor, construction worker, Laboratory manager, gardener, research biologist and author. By 2008 John's passion for the need for an expanded medical model was ignited by watching a series of friends and loved ones become sicker from the properly prescribed proceedures and pills from their well intentioned doctors. That is when John began his formal medical training at the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine(OCOM) in Portland. He chose OCOM because of their esteemed role in acupuncture research and evidence based medicine. In 2013 John started what has become The WellBridge Clinic. Helping people get better and stay better with Acupuncture and Traditional East Asian Medicine has been a dream for John since 1997. He thrives on communicating what this medicine is all about to his patients and in lectures to audiences. There is never a dull moment for John, in and out of the Clinic. He lives with his wife and daughter in Portland you might find them paddle boarding, skiing/snowboarding, camping, or traveling. John also is an avid gardener and raises unusual orchids."
This content was provided by John Rybak "The science of Acupuncture and Traditional East Asian Medicine is prevention. We know that prescriptions and surgical procedures need to be used as a last resort in health care. There is a time and place for all types of medicine. At the WellBridge Clinic we work to prevent the need for joint replacements and eliminate the need for opiate pain medications. Research shows acupuncture works better than surgeries, opiate pain killers, and even chiropractic and physical therapy. Our mission is to communicate in modern language. Improved communication combined with effective results are why people choose The WellBridge Clinic."
