This content was provided by Dr. Jones "I practice from an interpersonal model (Sullivan/Peplau) and use a psycho-dynamic approach to treatment (Freud). Most mental illness (depression, anxiety, ADHD) can be resolved with a commitment to therapy and life style changes (diet, exercise, etc.). Medications should never be the first line of treatment and if used, should be done so rarely, very sparingly, and only for very brief periods.
With regard to couples issues and sexual disorders, sexuality and sexual functioning play a major role in everything from basic reproduction to childhood development, maturation, adult lifestyle, and sexual / couple satisfaction. Sexual feelings, functioning, and behaviors comprise an important part of each person, no matter age or situation, and should not be neglected or ignored by health care providers. My goal as an advanced practice psychiatric nurse is to help individuals and couples achieve their optimal functioning (sexual or otherwise) through psychotherapeutic and nursing interventions."
