ran across this and wish to respond: for the "NP Student and parent": while a fever going up appears concerning, if you are going to practice as an NP please understand what a fever can represent....it means that the immune system is fighting something; in this case you had a health child as you stated, therefore the natural immune response to a viral illness is fever. Also, in children, (GI problems) are more common with what I suspect was Influenza. Influenza peaked much later in 2016.

I am a nurse/NP student & he WAS the pediatrician for our healthy boys for the past 3 years. My 11 year old had temp 100.2, aches, cough, headache, nausea. He told me it was a virus, to prepare for him to be sick for several days & to call his cell if he gets worse. At 2:30 Fri. afternoon, he had a 103.6 fever, was crying w/ body aches (chest, back & hips), headache & nausea. I called at 2:45 pm & when he called back he was totally condescending! Why would I ever call him again? I won't.
