After graduating at the top of his class with a bachelor's in social work from East Carolina University, Ian provided clinical work at a variety of settings, including a juvenile detention center, several elementary, middle, and high schools, a psychosocial rehabilitation clubhouse, and as the assistant director of an arts therapy center. While receiving his masters in social work from the University of Maryland, Ian worked in an outpatient mental health clinic, treating the symptoms of severe and persistent mental illness with the homeless populations of Washington, DC, and trained at the Catholic University of America. After graduating, he worked in group practices and at a therapeutic school, treating individuals, groups, and couples.
