There he was a varsity football player and lettered twice as a student athlete. He was also part of the Inter-varsity Christian Fellowship, a christian based mentoring group for student athletes. He attended the Pennsylvania College of Optometry, graduating Cum Laude in 1993. He subsequently completed a residency in ocular disease and surgical co-management at OMNI Eye Services in Iselin NJ, sponsored by the State University of New York (SUNY) where his training involved extensive experience in the management of most all complex ocular diseases and visual system disorders. Dr. Schultz has received advanced training in all subspecialty areas of ophthalmology including pre and post operative care of cataract, medical and surgical glaucoma, treatment of corneal diseases, corneal transplant and refractive surgery, neuro-ophthalmology, medical and surgical retina and oculo-plastics. Dr. Schultz has twenty years of experience in secondary and tertiary eye care and limited his practice to consultative work and seeing patients on referral only from his optometric colleagues and other medical specialties for all of that time. After completing residency training he was promoted to a Clinical Director position for two of OMNI'S branch offices in Parsippany, NJ and New York City. In that capacity he served as a consultant and referral source for over 300 eye care providers in New Jersey and New York. Dr. Schultz accepted a position as a full partner and Clinical Director of Virginia Eye Consultants, a practice specializing in corneal diseases, cataracts, glaucoma and refractive surgery until 2006. There he served as a consultant to a network of over 100 optometrists and was involved in advanced clinical care. Dr. Schultz was also heavily involved in clinical/pharmaceutical research while in this position. He was a sub-investigator in thirteen clinical trials and was the Primary Investigator in a dry eye study for an OTC product FDA approved and released as Optive (Allergan). More recently Dr. Schultz joined with Advanced Vision Institute where he was director of one branch of their optometric referral center at the Sentara Careplex in Hampton. There he was a referral source and consultant for neurological cases at the hospital and the primary referral source for all eye and vision related disorders for the Virginia Oncology Associates at the Careplex. Care Philosophy

This content was provided by Dr. Schultz "I believe that in managing patients visual complaints and analyzing complex eye disease you first must listen carefully to the patients history, then consider how their general health relates to their condition, and then do your best to fix or remedy their problems. Patients in general want three things: To know that I understand their problems, that I have the knowledge, experience and training to fix the problem, and lastly trust that I will do my very best for them. I subscribe to this philosophy."
