About Emily Smith L.Ac. Emily is one of the few Westerner`s to hold both American and Japanese Acupuncture Licenses. After living, working and studying in Japan for 22 years, Emily returned to the Bay Area in 2014 with a desire to support people with Post Traumatic Stress. The 2011 Earthquake and Tsunami highlighted the value of gentle acupuncture and massage for alleviating many of the complaints experienced by disaster survivors. Though many of us have not experienced a natural disaster, many of us carry chronic stress and trauma from our life experiences. The result is chronic pain, life-style related disorders, stress, anxiety, depression and a loss of aliveness. Emily offers support or resources so people can make vibrant health easy and sustainable *Emily is a graduate of the Interchange Counseling Program, San Francisco, and is eager to support people in de-constructing limiting beliefs so they can become true leaders in their lives and relationships. *She is a member and contributor to the North American East Asian Journal of Oriental Medicine—a collaborative network of International practitioners actively translating their research and clinical experience between English and Japanese. She also translates and interprets for visiting Japanese acupuncturists. *Emily earned her Masters in Traditional Chinese Medicine from the American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, San Francisco. She completed her Japanese Licensure (Acupuncture, Anma, Shiatsu and Moxibustion) at the Kuretake Institute of Medical Therapeutics in Shinjuku, Tokyo. She has been in practice since 1993. *Emily also uses the Egoscue Method of Postural alignment to help people retrain their posture to enjoy a pain free life.
