Dana Dambrauskas' bio

This content was provided by Dana Dambrauskas "Dana is a 2002 Summa Cum Laude graduate from UNF with a BS in Health Science and a Master of Science in Physical Therapy. Dana was also her class recipient of the Academic Excellence Award for her Undergraduate Physical Therapy Program and for the Outstanding Achievement in Physical Therapy Graduate Scholarship Award. Dana Also has a BS from the UNY, College at Cortland, 1996. Cortland State is where Dana competed on the Woman's College Gymnastics team, earning National Qualification on Beam and Floor for her individual performance at Nationals in 1994 and 1995. Shortly after, Dana relocated to Tampa, Florida to pursue her dream of being a Physical Therapist. While in school, Dana worked as a Personal Trainer and took special interest in sports-specific training and post rehabilitative exercise management. In 1999 Dana entered the Ironwomen Pro-am Tri-Fitness World Championships in Tampa. As a tri-fitness competitor she trained on an obstacle course team and worked on fitness and physique. Dana qualified for Nationals but declined as to finish Physical Therapy School. While in Physical Therapy school she took up running to relieve stress and competed in local races. After passing her boards she relocated to Westin where she worked as a Physical Therapist at HealthSouth, located above a surgery center. She was grateful for her experience to treat patients after observing their orthopedic surgeries. This collaborative approach gave her the firsthand knowledge to develop the skills necessary to treat complicated joint surgeries and reconstructions. During her time spent in South Florida, Dana returned to the classroom at Ola Grimsby Institute completing a Clinical Certification Program in 2005, becoming a Manually Trained Physical Therapist. With her new skill set she continued to practice in Sports Medicine/Orthopedic Outpatient. Dana eventually moved to Orlando and worked at the RDV Sportsplex in Maitland as a Physical Therapist for Florida Hospital. Here she was again able to work alongside Orthopedic Physicians and learn more skills associated with the treatment of sports related injuries. It was here that she was introduced to her now husband John, who is a local triathlete. Dana and John relocated to Lake Mary where she returned to Select Medical Corporation. Several years of employment there granted her an opportunity for additional learning, as her office was located in the MedPlex. With a Podiatrist located below, she was able to treat many different foot and ankle injuries. During this time, John introduced her to the sport of Triathlon and her passion for the sport was immediate. Moving up from the sprint distance to the Half Ironman (70.3) distance, Dana often placed in the top of her age group. To include an Overall Female Finisher at the Outer Banks 70.3 Distance Race. Together John and Dana went on to compete in their first Full Ironman in 2013, Panama City Beach. Racing 140.6 miles for the first time, Dana was 3rd in her age group, nearly missing World Championship placing. At this time Dana moved into the field of Home Health Care. Working several years for Nurse on Call, she learned new skills as her patient demographics included the geriatric population. With increased flexibility for training and family time, in 2014 Dana started CrossFit at CrossFit Lake Mary and instantly loved it! Similar to Triathlon and different than gymnastics, she was able to participate in a sport that encourages athletes of all different ages and skill levels to work towards individualized goals in a group setting. With the encouragement of friends and family, Dana decided to pursue her love for sports and her passion for helping others as a Physical Therapist. In January 2015 Dana founded Transitions Physical Therapy. Focusing on preventative care and rehabilitation of orthopedic and sports related injuries. Dana is now able to provide individualized care to meet the unique needs of those she works with."
