This content was provided by Dr. McDowell "I was born and raised in Boise, Idaho and educated at the College of Idaho. Following premed I went to the California College of Podiatric Medicine in San Francisco. I knew in the eighth grade that I wanted to be a physician and podiatry seemed to fulfill that desire. I took a two-year surgical residency in San Francisco at the California Podiatry Hospital with rotations at Highland Alameda Hospital in Oakland. I graduated with honors and in the top five of my class. I moved to Sacramento in 1975 and became the first podiatrist admitted to Mercy San Juan Hospital. I have served on numerous committees during my time at my location on Coyle Avenue. Fortunately I have been able to stay in the same location for all of my practice years. I became board-certified in several prestigious areas of podiatry and have maintained those certifications. Recently I have become very involved in the treatment of peripheral neuropathy. This has been incredibly satisfying and today is a large part of my practice. Fortunately I am also in practice with Dr. Gavin Ripp and Dr. Steven Medawar and they are both highly skilled in Foot and Ankle Surgery. They also specialize in podopediatrics otherwise known as pediatric foot care, trauma, sports medicine and foot and ankle surgery. My wife and I have three wonderful children and now are blessed with five grandsons. Our time is consumed with family and friends."

She in turn will take a complete history and physical and listen very carefully to the reason the patient's are there. It is very important for us to not only look at the foot, but the whole body as well. We believe in total health care when you come to our office. The medical assistant will then provide this information to the Dr. via the computer before the Dr. enters the room.
Each room is provided with a computer for medical education and handouts. We try to make sure that all of our patients are not only taken care of, but educated as well to their respective problem. We find the more the patient knows about their own problems the more accountable they are in taking care of their problems in conjunction with the doctors diagnosis. Education is of supreme importance in our office.
We also provide 24 hour emergency care as we have a doctor on call at all times. We have in office x-rays for those trauma patient's so that we can initiate care immediately. For our many diabetic patients we encourage them to call at any time because we find the earlier a diabetic is taken care of the better the results will be. We try to get all of these patients in the same day or within 24 hours. We also provide for our diabetics nutritional counseling via in house dietitians. It is very important that we not only take care of the foot of our diabetics but their nutritional needs as well.
We have the most modern equipment available which includes complete electronic medical records that are available to the patient's at any time. We encourage our patient's to use our patient portal with any question they might have at any time and we strive to get back to them within 24 hours. We have ultrasonic visualization equipment along with digitalized x-ray made available in every treatment room. Four different types of lasers that are utilized in surgery, wound healing, treatment of fungus toenails and treatment of chronic injuries. We also have lasers available for the treatment of peripheral neuropathy, pain and inflammatory injuries. Electro/analgesia is a new computerized program specifically for peripheral neuropathy and has been very successful in the treatment and relief of this particular medical problem."
