Dr. Kalkstein's bio

This content was provided by Dr. Kalkstein "Your Towson Area Neck and Back Pain Chiropractor Academic Honors While at Logan, Dr. Blake was recognized for his consultation and teaching services in the Biofreeze™ Sports and Rehabilitation clinic. While earning his D.C. degree, Dr. Blake went to work as a chiropractic intern at the National Military Medical Hospital Walter Reed in Bethesda, MD. At Walter Reed, he had the privilege to work in the amputee rehabilitation center, where his strong background in low back and core stability programs led to improved communication between the chiropractic and physical therapy departments. Inspirational Healing It was there, too, that Dr. Blake had his chiropractic "aha" moment, while working with a double amputee Iraqi war veteran. "Helping this wounded veteran to live pain free was one of the greatest feelings I have ever experienced," Dr. Blake commented. "There's an indescribable feeling that I get when I realize that I can help people with chronic pain to feel better, after everything else they've tried has failed." A Team Approach Dr. Blake loves working as part of a team, so the challenging part of being a chiropractor is the M.D. bias against chiropractic that he sometimes faces. He certainly isn't anti-medicine or anti-hospital – all forms of healthcare have their rightful place – but chiropractic care can be extremely helpful in cases where traditional medical approaches have failed. Patients are better served when physician specialties can take a "team" approach and recognize the merits of each specialty. While this can be challenging, Dr. Blake says the best part of being a chiropractor is seeing immediate results. He explained, "It's great when a patient crawls in and then walks out. Or when you can help put a smile on the face of someone who's been in chronic pain for a very long time. These are the moments that make this career choice truly gratifying." Sports Medicine Dr. Blake completed his master's degree in Sports Science and Rehabilitation at Logan University in May of 2013. His clinical internship with John's Hopkins Sports Medicine orthopedic surgeons has allowed him to observe all types of injuries. Open dialogue with and careful guidance from Dr. John Wilckens, team orthopedist for the Baltimore Orioles and his internship supervisor, has led Dr. Blake to better understand advanced orthopedic and sports injuries and ways to appropriately manage each condition. According to Dr. Blake, "There's a lot of new research directed toward sports medicine. I am learning some cutting-edge approaches to treatment that I can share with my patients. Dr. Blake has an advanced post-graduate certification in Active Release Technique (ART), a patented, state-of-the-art soft tissue system/movement based massage technique that treats problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and nerves. Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician Dr. Blake E. Kalkstein has obtained the postgraduate designation of Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician® (CCSP®) by the American Chiropractic Board of Sports Physicians™ (ACBSP™). The CCSP® certification requires the doctor to attend a minimum of 100 hours of a 120 hour postgraduate program. This instruction is specific to physical fitness and the evaluation and treatment of injuries encountered in sports. Following the completion of these hours, the doctor must then take and successfully pass a comprehensive written examination. This training will aid the doctor in the prevention and treatment of athletic injuries by enhancing his diagnostic skills and patient care. The CCSP® accreditation exists to provide a uniform standard of education that assures teams and athletes that the doctor has met a minimum level of competency in chiropractic sports medicine. Dr. Blake Kalkstein joins over 5200 others internationally who hold this designation."
