This content was provided by Dr. Heiserman "I earned my Ph.d in clinical psychology from Columbia University where I've been an Adjunct Professor for 20 years. In addition, I have a certificate in psychoanalysis from New York University Postdoctoral Program in Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis. I have also taught at St. Luke's/Roosevelt Hospital, Pace University Long Island University, and the National Institute for the Psychotherapies and have been an ongoing consultant to the Program in Narrative Medicine at Columbia University. During and after college, prior to my intensive study and practice of psychotherapy and psychoanalysis, I made paintings and sculptures. My background in the arts continuously informs and enriches my work, as the process of change – for both therapist and patient - always involves moments of uncertainty, discovery, playfulness, creativity and surprise. Being a clinical psychologist has brought me the wonderful reward of seeing many patients grow emotionally into a more fulfilling life. This is the most gratifying part of my life as a professional."
This content was provided by Dr. Heiserman "I have over 25 years experience working with individuals (adults, adolescents, and children) and couples on a wide variety of emotional issues and life challenges. Individual psychotherapy involves entering into a confidential, open and honest dialogue in which you can take a close look at your life, your past, your current circumstances and your decisions. Over the years I have seen considerable benefit in focusing on what is felt within the therapeutic relationship as a valuable source of understanding limitations and discovering possibilities for change. I pay careful attention to, and collaboratively explore, the subtleties and intricacies of personal and interpersonal experiences. In a creative and sometimes playful manner, we will begin to imagine and explore new ways of seeing yourself, open up new ways of relating to others, and in the process overcome negative expectations. The goal is to move you towards becoming who you would most like to become."
