Dr. Barton's bio

This content was provided by Dr. Barton "I was born on the Eastern Shore of Virginia, the son of a World War II naval officer. As a child and teen we traveled to various naval duty stations in Bermuda, Puerto Rico, Virginia Beach, New Orleans, and Brunswick, Georgia. My college years brought me to Austin, Texas where I received undergraduate and graduate training in psychology and post-doctoral clinical work in Chapel Hill, NC. I have worked both in the public and private sectors, including four years as founder and owner of Texas Community Living Ventures, inc. offering group homes to persons with developmental disabilities. My last 27 years has been spent in private practice in Houston, Texas. We are moving to Sherman, Ct., which is my wife's home to eventually retire. I enjoy the people and places of New England's history and charm and am a devoted fan of travel, hiking, reading, and writing."

Care Philosophy

This content was provided by Dr. Barton "As a psychologist I want my patients to feel comfortable where we engage in a dialogue that facilitates and encourages discussion without judgment or status differences. I try to refocus current maladaptive behaviors to triggers that lead to maladaptive responses that we wish to change. Behavior change begins with self awareness that answers two basic questions: 1) who am I and 2) how do I wish to grow into a responsible person with the support of my therapist who will be honest with me."
