Dr. Van Siclen's Care Philosophy

I am a Child Psychologist, not a "psychologist who works with children": My degree is Child Psychology from the Institute of Child Development at the University of Minnesota. I see ONLY children and adolescents, except for the occasional adult AD/HD evaluation or consultation. I have been doing this for over 25 years, and still love my work. My practice is small - three psychologists - so my patients get personal service. I am aware that parents are in the best position to help a child, so parents play a key role in my treatment and are always involved.

    Dr. Van Siclen says...

For many years, I have practiced what is now called "Integrated Care", coordinated work with physicians on issues where pediatrics and psychology overlap.  I have worked closely with physicians in hospitals, and have seen patients at medical clinics for thirty years.

I have performed nearly 1,100 AD/HD evaluations.  Nearly all have been referrals from physicians.

I have worked with persons on the Autism Spectrum since before there was an "Autism Spectrum".  My earliest clinical experience was working with severely impaired, nonverbal autistic children, when this level of impairment was the only recognized standard for autism.  As the definition of Autism has expanded, so has my range of skills and my experience working with persons with ASD.
