Clinical Child & Adolescent Psychology | Female

Care Philosophy

My clinical approach is compassionate & hope-fIlled, for in the words of the Little Prince, it is "only with the heart (affectivity) that one can see rightly". Along with Ph.D. scientific learning & continuous research, I have developed a deeply caring clinical approach - working alongside amazingly dedicated others in numerous formal/informal settings during years of training & collaborative global practice. I've found that, indeed, sorrow & beauty go hand in hand -- in emergency psychiatry, hospital chaplaincy, pediatric aids, childhood cancer, on the streets with cyclically homeless youth, with asylum seekers, forcibly displaced unaccompanied children -- in third grade classrooms at morning check-in . . .  So I "work" from a flexible, integrative theoretical position, drawing from Lovingkindness in Wisdom traditions, ancient Buddhist & inter religious thought, interwoven with clinical developmental/psychodynamic, attachment & modern attachment theory; & global mental health theory.

Dr. Ruebsamen's Care Philosophy

Dr. Ruebsamen says...

A clinician/Ph.D. professor for 20 years in Bay area psychology doctoral programs, I also founded & direct Abbey Psychological Services: private, comprehensive clinical and forensic services for adults, children & families: psychological assessment, consultation; precision treatment. Focus: nature and effects of severe stress, trauma on children, coping, hope.

My services are uniquely sought for clarity of case conceptualization, psychodiagnosis, psychological assessment-informed, relational, precision treatment of effects of acute/chronic adversity/illness, victimization, interpersonal & inter parental violence for "children exposed", my emphasis on co-creating a healing story with even the youngest children, for never turning a child away.

A global humanitarian, I am Founding Executive Director of Always Be Listening Global Initiative 501(c)(3), an independent nonprofit in the US for forcibly displaced, war/armed conflict affected children in refugee camps at ten border regions.

Dr. Ruebsamen says...

Traumatized kids get better here- particularly the youngest! Relationship centered, trauma sensitive,  reflective, research-based & precise, I use results of psychological assessment clinically to inform my emerging hypotheses in order to gain access to the direct, inner experience of my patients, knowledgeably & accurately selecting clinical interventions, intervening & re-interviewing with awareness of the many, shifting contexts that surround children & young people . . .

Working closely with the family, & all who have meaning in the lives of the child patient, our aim is to co-create a new, story-  a healthier, more coherent narrative, rather than reinforce the repetitious, old, broken story of despair and hopelessness . . .

ex: child never turned away w.out treatment: refugee/bullied/suicidal/homeless/gay/trans
