Dr. Mazza's Care Philosophy

Chiropractic maintains that the body possesses a unique innate wisdom that strives to maintain it in a state of good health. At the Alliance Chiropractic Wellness Center, our focus is on the upper cervical / upper neck region of the spine, which houses & protects the brain stem. When misaligned, this is the most serious kind of vertebral subluxation (misalignment). Our care is Upper Cervical Oriented, Conservative, and Gentle.

Dr. Mazza says...

Although the full spine is checked and adjusted as needed, the emphasis in our office is on the upper cervical region of the spine – the top two bones of the neck called the Atlas and the Axis. The reason for emphasizing the upper cervical spine is two-fold: One, because these bones are the most freely moving vertebrae in the spine and, thus, are most subject to misalignment. Two, because this area of the spine houses and protects a part of the brain that extends out of the skull called the Medulla Oblongata. This area of the brain controls the autonomic nervous system which in turn controls the organs. If there is pressure on the brain stem, it is obviously more serious than misalignments (vertebral subluxations) in other areas of the spine. The good news is that when vertebral subluxations are corrected in this area, the results can be quite significant. After correcting vertebral subluxations in this very important area, then the rest of the spine is addressed.

Dr. Mazza says...

I deliver specific upper cervical adjustments to the C1 and C2 vertebra (also known as Atlas and Axis). These areas are targeted because these vertebra house and protect the brain stem and, by extension, affect the rest of the body. My training at Sherman College of Straight Chiropractic (which has an emphasis on this area of the spine) as well as the past 28 years of practice in this area makes me uniquely qualified for this kind of care. Oftentimes, this area requires little care if it is approached correctly the first time. Patients range from newborns to elder populations, as this problem is extremely common.
