Julie Simons, LCSW
I am a psychotherapist in private practice working with men and women of all ages with various issues. I have training in helping people resolve trauma and use an individualized approach to deal with a wide range of issues from coping with divorce, major life changes, accidents/disaster victims and past sexual, physical and/or emotional abuse. I also have many years experience in working with depression, anxiety as well as supporting others in their personal growth. I have a former specialty with children and teens and continue to see this population on a case by case basis; however, I most of my work is with individual adults.

Julie Simons' Care Philosophy

Every therapist has her or his own personal and professional style. In an effort to describe mine, I would say my approach is both personal and eclectic. Each individual that enters my office comes in with a unique history and perspective, and I make a conscious effort to understand and become familiar with their very personal experience of life. No one approach works for everyone. That's why I like having many "tools in my toolbox." I work with each person to get clear on his or her goals and together we develop a clinical strategy to work toward a common purpose. Though some people seek a more directive approach, while others require more validation and support, my personality generally reflects a gentle, empathic approach. Ultimately, I consider myself somewhat of a wilderness guide with a flashlight, perhaps just one step ahead of my client providing light and focus where needed.

Amazing!!! Very empathetic, she doesn't just listen, she hears and rephrases. As a trained counselor it is challenging to find someone that can rise to my level of expectations and Julie Simons always does. She pushes when I need to be pushed, but never to hard and is cognizant of my hurt and expresses such. Homework assignments reflect what we are working on in counseling and agreeable to alter focus should larger issues arise.
Thank you for taking the time to write this feedback. Knowing that you've benefited from our work is very validating and much appreciated.

Talk Therapy:

Sometimes it's hard to sort things out in our own minds and trying to do so for too long can end up taking a toll on our health, productivity and personal relationships. Relying exclusively on our own perceptions to make sense of our lives, our relationships or ourselves can often leave us more confused and distressed.

This approach offers a the kind of confidential, safe and supportive environment that allows you to deepen your understanding of yourself and discover insights that can be pivotal in getting clarity on where you have been, we are you now are and the direction you want to go. Through this process, I serve as a guide to assist you in accessing your own answers.

EMDR: Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing.

Having used this modality for over a decade, I continue to find it one of the most powerful and effective interventions available. It can be used to improve a variety of issues including fears, low self-esteem, trauma, depression and negative thoughts. See the FAQ section for more info on this.

It has been my experience that having a non-judgmental, confidential space to share your struggles can be all we need to put the pieces together and get back on track. My clinical tools and training in a variety of cognitive behavioral strategies can assist in this process to get you on the other side of the obstacles you may be facing right now.

Body Therapy:

As a Certified Bioenergetic Analyst, I am able to offer guidance in the area of body awareness that can be helpful in and out of therapy sessions in ways that can expedite the positive changes you're looking for.  For more on this modality see FAQ.

Brief Solution Focused Therapy:

This is a goal oriented process based on a detailed plan that we work out together. This collaborative approach requires a commitment to spending 10/15 minutes a day in between sessions on specific assignments and is a fast track in moving you toward your goals.
