Jill ShepherdPiercyClark's Care Philosophy

I became a therapist because of my deep desire to help people improve the quality of their lives. I believe in assisting clients in the exploration of their challenges and help find ways to empower them to discover their own solutions. I possess the ability to listen carefully and discern a client's needs. My training and experience have taught me that people sometimes need the opportunity to explore their emotions and thought processes in order to find peace. My goal is to help people discover who they are and work with their strengths to create a new way of living. Relational issues, anxiety, panic, depression and PTSD are my area of focus for which Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is the most effective treatment. I have worked closely with children and their families to help them find healing and change in behavioral and system patterns. I believe in a holistic appraisal and assessment process in which each area of one's life is explored in order to discover a healthy balance.

Are you feeling stuck in destructive behaviors patterns, having relational issues and anger management problems? Are you suffering from a major loss? As a therapist my goal is to help people have the opportunity to gain insight into their lives. The goal of therapy is to provide clients with the chance to approach relationships with new tools and skills with which they can live their lives successfully. Do you need a fresh approach to your relationship? Or is it guidance in parenting a child with behavioral issues, school challenges or ADHD? Whatever the issue, the therapeutic relationship is essential in achieving change and I make every effort to make therapy sessions an emotionally safe place to experience, process and resolve the issues that are coming between you and your happy life filled with contentment.

Jill ShepherdPiercyClark says...

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy or CBT supports you in making changes in the way you think, feel and behave. This is significant because what we think and do, shapes our brain. Fundamentally, what we think we feel and become. CBT is psycho-educational; it teaches how your thoughts, feelings and behaviors interrelate with each other. We often generate our own distress through habitual ways of thinking. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy helps us to comprehend this, and outline it into separate pieces.

For example, if you spend your day worrying about how you look, the chances are, you will start to feel this in your body.  You might feel nervous and afraid.  It may even prevent you from doing things.  If you stop and think about it for a moment, most of the things we worry about never happen.  In this way with our thoughts  we are unintentionally creating our own distress.
