Dr. Gary H. Wilcox Jr. grew up in Reno, Nevada, and became inspired to study dentistry in high school. He attended Montana State University and the University of Nevada, Reno for his undergraduate studies. Between schools, he worked as a fly fishing guide in Alaska before returning home to Reno, Nevada, to finish his degree and go into business with his dad building custom homes. He began studying general dentistry in Nevada as he began his pre-requisite courses. During his second year of dental school, there was an oral surgeon who demonstrated unique cases of orthognathic and war trauma cases. These cases were an influence to Dr. Wilcox as he chose to pursue a career in oral and maxillofacial surgery. Once completing dental school to receive his Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry, he enrolled in an oral and maxillofacial surgical residency program. He performs trauma and emergency oral care at the University Hospital Medical Center where he completed his residency training, Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, and both Mercy Hospital Anderson and Mercy Hospital West.
