Dr. Capps believes that intrinsic shame is at the root of all emotional discomfort. His philosophy is based on the premise that every human being is worthy of respect, dignity, safety and love. He incorporates this philosophy into the healing process by discovering the strengths of the client and helping the client build on these strengths to be empowered and free of emotional pain.
Dr. Capps is founder of A NEW DIRECTION in Corpus Christi, Texas where he specializes in the addictive process, EMDR, trauma resolution and grief counseling for individuals and couples. He is licensed as a Professional Counselor, is an Approved LPC Supervisor, and is Board Certified as a National Certified Counselor, an International Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor, and a Level II EMDR Therapist. Dr. Capps has been providing substance abuse evaluations for employee and peer assistance programs and the criminal justice system since 1988 and is a Qualified Substance Abuse Professional since January 2004. Dr. Capps is currently serving as an Adjunct Professor in the Addictions Track of the Master in Counseling Program at Texas A&M University—Corpus Christi in addition to his private practice.
