Dr. Frank Houser, OD
I grew up in a small Midwest town, Wilber Nebraska, population 1200. I attended Wilber Clatonia Public School. I was active in sports, band, FFA, raising hogs as my project. I am also a member of the Wilber Clatonia Czech Marching Band. We gather yearly to play Polka music for the town's yearly Czech Festival. I graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1975 with a BS in Zoology and a teaching certificate. I then graduated from Southern College of Optometry in 1980. While attending SCO, I was awarded a Navy Scholarship, thus my eight years in the US Navy. I had the opportunity to work at the Navajo reservation, Ft. Defiance, AZ, treating diseases others only read about in books. Also being brought into the Navajo and Hopi culture was a wonderful and earth grounding experience. My time in the US Navy was spent doing eye examinations and training resident Ophthalmologist's in the art of a proper eye examination, After the Navy, I returned to Omaha Nebraska working in a group practice gaining an insight to the business side of a practice. In 1991 I returned to Jacksonville Florida to open, The EYE Doctor. For me, its been a rewarding and enjoyable profession,

Patient Satisfaction Surveys use to scare me to death, do I really want to hear anything negative about myself?

Well over the years, I have found they only help to improve yourself, thankfully most are positive and a joy to read.  Even if its a problem with manufacturing of a lens, it all stops with me.  Fix it.

The worse doctor ever! He prescribed eyeglass when i was pregnant! I found out with my OB that when a woman is pregnant their vision changed. What do i know about that? I went to him and that day he saw me he's assistant kinda pushed me to get glasses from them that cost me a lot of money! And was even rude to tell me that i can't get the style of the glasses i wanted! I have now a $500 glasses that sits in my purse and never used! What a waste of money! Never will i recommend this to anyone!

The time spent at Fort Defiance and the US Navy, let me gain and expand knowledge that Doctors on the outside were unable to preform due to restrictive regulations.

Seeing and treating diseases you only read about, invaluable.

I'd say removing foreign bodies from the eye, cornea and drilling out rust rings is challenging. I do treatment for several large companies in Jacksonville area that work with steel construction and repair.

Staying on top of new designs in contact lenses and fitting the needs of my generation, who are unable to read without the aid of reading glasses is also rewarding
