Dr. Eric Cutting, DC
Dr. Eric Cutting has been providing his unique approach of combining hands-on soft-tissue massage with chiropractic adjustments (manual and/or activator) and home rehabilitation techniques in the Amesbury area since 1985. In every visit, Dr. Cutting works with his patient for half an hour. "The more you learn to help yourself, the healthier you'll feel and the less you'll need me." He believes it is vitally important to instruct his patients to develop their own self-care routine for home use. Following a skiing accident in his twenties, he searched for a natural approach to restore his body. He sought the help of a Sri Lankan doctor. The physician specialized in a form of Ayurvedic deep tissue work, combined with manual manipulation. Amazed at his recovery through this non-invasive safe technique, Eric moved to New York and began apprenticing under this doctor of this Eastern healing art. After several years of honing his skills and assisting others to restore their health, Eric moved to California, earning his Chiropractic degree, Cum Laude, in 1983 from Cleveland Chiropractic College. As a healthy and successful competitive athlete, Dr. Cutting enjoys sharing his personal knowledge to raise awareness of the self-help care options available.

Dr. Cutting's Care Philosophy

The earth's gravitational force is the primary physical force constantly acting upon us. The more our musculo-skeletal posture lines up with this force as we move about, the more efficiently our body runs. The more efficiently our body runs, the more energy we conserve, the less pain we experience and the more we are able to move about with ease and comfort. We all know there are various stresses in life. These can affect us on the physical, mental, and emotional levels (injury/trauma; fear/anxiety; repetitive negative thought patterns). These stresses can also cause "primitive involuntary reflexes" that tighten our muscles, and often do not allow them to go back to a normal relaxed state of rest. This unconscious process causes imbalanced muscle tension and muscle weakness patterns to form. These abnormal patterns result in our bodies running less efficiently. If this process escalates far enough, it will result in nerve interference and consequent symptoms. Together, we can identify your tension and weakness patterns and its resulting effect of improperly operating joints by looking at the following: your current posture against a gravity plumb line; the range of motion in the various joints; pertinent orthopedic and neurological tests; muscle strengths and weaknesses; and by palpating (touching) various muscles, bones, joints, and soft tissue. Using specific forms of muscle release techniques along with chiropractic manipulation (Hands-on/Activator/SOT blocks and Kinesiology) when appropriate, I can help release these improper tension patterns and free up the improperly functioning joints. Most importantly, by spending a full 30 minutes upon each visit to address your concerns, I will teach you specific ways to strengthen your weak muscles and reprogram the nervous system to release your tense muscles. With your body "in balance with gravity", you will move more smoothly, fluidly, and effortlessly. With the resetting of your nervous system, you will have more energy to enjoy life as you easily access your body's "innate healing intelligence". It is only when we are out of balance with our body's natural alignment that the stresses of life may result in our experiencing symptoms. I can boost your body's natural alignment, provide you with home self-care methods, assist you in raising awareness of your body, and teach you the best way to care for yourself in general.

Chiropractic with Deep Tissue Massage and Neuro-Muscular Rehabilitation:

Over time, stresses of daily living train our unconscious mind to hold tension patterns resulting in undue pain and struggle.  Together we can detect and correct unhealthy patterns by using specific applications of deep tissue massage, kinesiology, and neuro-muscular rehabilitation.

These release methods re-establish healthy movement patterns to restore proper function.  After an extensive consult, exam, evaluation, and intial treatment, patients receive comprehensive spinal health care consisting of 30-minute follow-ups and maintenance/wellness treatments.

Each visit combines hands-on chiropractic; gentle activator method; kinesiology testing techniques, along with deep tissue massage, neuro-muscular rehabilitation, and hot/cold applications as indicated. To assist  patients in maintaining their progress, Dr. Cutting provides personalized exercise instruction.

Dr. Cutting says...

Through the various physical, emotional, and mental stresses of life (injury/trauma; fear/anxiety; repetitive negative thought patterns), the human being develops tension and weakness patterns in the body.

The Cutting Massage Chiropractic approach is to identify for the patient where these weakness patterns are, to release them through hands-on deep tissue muscle work/massage, to adjust the misaligned joints that are caused by the tension patterns, and to teach the patient specific muscle lengthening techniques so they can release the tension patterns on their own and specific strengthening protocols to alleviate the weakness patterns.   By working together in this way, the patient gains more body awareness so they can learn how to take care of themselves and improve their quality of life.

Unlike most chiropractors, Dr. Eric Cutting spends 30 minutes with his patient at every visit.  The combination of specific massage, chiropractic adjustments, and personalized home care rehabilitation takes more time, but produces faster healing and longer-lasting results, along with a feel-good experience.
