I provide primarily cognitive behavioral therapy. How one thinks about a situation will influence how one feels emotionally, how one reacts and behaves. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) teaches specific skills to address problematic behaviors, thoughts and feelings so that clients can manage moods, increase motivation, improve interactions with others, solve problems and change behaviors. CBT is an evidence based approach with many studies showing it to be effective for depression, stress, anxiety and weight loss. Counseling or coaching will be collaborative with clients actively taking a part in setting goals, practicing the skills between sessions and trying new behaviors to create change and improve moods. I am also a certified personal trainer and often integrated physical activity into treatment. Exercise has been proven to have many brain benefits in addition to the obvious physical health benefits. Studies show that exercise effectively reduces depression and anxiety symptoms. And, many people who maintained exercise were even shown to be in remission with no symptoms at all. Exercise is a powerful tool in improving mood, increasing focus and attention and self-esteem. I can help clients figure out a physical activity that works for them, starting where they are and helping them to incorporate it into their life so they can feel better.
