I have been an RN for 31 years and a family nurse practitioner for 7 years. I worked at St. Mary's Hospital in Tucson for 24 years in many different areas. I also worked for an ENT surgeon in the office and operating room x 10 years. I went back to school for the FNP and now run a private family practice with my friend and colleague for the last 7 years. I have worked in many areas of nursing (Emergency Room, Operating Room, Intensive Care Units, Floating to various units where my help was needed – Orthopedics, Respiratory, Medical-Surgical, Burn Unit, etc.) and have been involved with Grand Canyon University for nearly ten years now, teaching for their Nurse Practitioner program since early 2013. I love helping to raise up students to be great at what they do! I love going to work every day!
I worked specifically in orthopedics for over 4 years and also have been a certified exercise specialist for over 32 years. I continue to keep a certification with American Counsel on Exercise and have extensive experience with sports and exercise related injuries, treatment, and rehabilitation.
I worked 17 years in the operating room and 10 of those years closely with a surgeon in his office learning to do minor surgical procedure, suturing, biopsies, etc. I have also taken multiple training courses, including training in the NP residency program relevant to doing these procedures.
I have specialized training in Ear, Nose, and Throat problems, working in that area consistently for 10 years.
I am trained and comfortable in women's health performing general physical exams, including breast and pelvic.
I am trained and comfortable in caring for children from birth through adulthood.
I am trained and comfortable in caring for the geriatric population and those who have chronic illness.
I use my knowledge, training, and expertise in all of these areas and refer out to specialists whenever it is necessary or I need further assistance in caring for my patients.

Even specialists specialize. One orthopedic surgeon might do nothing but hip surgeries, while another does nothing but knees. If you want the best possible care, it’s critical to match your medical need with the doctor who truly specializes in treating it.

Let me tell you a little bit about nurses....According to Florence Nightingale the general nature of nursing is both art and science... Nursing is autonomous within the defined scope of practice... Nursing is collaborative with all other healthcare professions... The goal of nursing is to foster health within the patient... Individuals are complex, holistic beings. The power of nursing comes from decision-making activities based on empirical observation of the patient... The practice of nursing should not be limited by gender, spiritual beliefs, or values.
The nurse should be allowed to develop to the maximum of his or her education, training, and potential, including diagnosing, treating, and fully caring for patients in whatever manner they need... This is the advanced practice nurse - Nurse Practitioner.
After working as a Nurse Practitioner in family practice for 6 years, I went back to school to attain the doctoral degree... Not because I have a burning desire to be a doctor (my heart is nursing) but because I want to be the best I can be for myself and for my patients and somehow having this degree gives me a stronger voice in the medical community. I finished this degree 2/24/2016 and will use what I have learned to improve patient care and be the best advocate I can be for my patients.
The foundation of the nurse practitioner is in nursing, using all areas of medicine... The heart of a nurse is someone who wants to care for others and to make their situation and health better, wherever that person is at the time!
I am so honored and blessed every day to be able to care for others! I love my job and feel that I am allowed to do every day what God has specifically made me to do. I will do my very best to use my knowledge and expertise to care for you in a thorough and loving manner!
Have a wonderful and blessed day!
I am a primary care provider and 50% owner of Abundant Health Family Practice (AHFP), which is a nurse practitioner owner and run private medical practice. AHFP has a foundation based in Christ centered leadership and service where all walks of life are welcome. Our mission is to promote the health and well-being of families by meeting the healthcare needs of those in the local Tucson community and surrounding areas. We utilize integrative medicine to care for every day problems and chronic illness. I see patients of all ages from birth through the life span. I do my best for every patient and seriously pray about how I am to care for them and what they need based on history, physical examination, and personal preferences. I will do my best for each patient every day!
