The primary focus of psychotherapy is to help the patient learn about her or himself, in an effort to understand and accept oneself and learn to identify and change thoughts and behaviours contributing to symptoms. I generally use a Self-Psychology or analytical approach geared toward identifying the origin of the presenting symptoms. Imagery and dream interpretation techniques are also commonly used to aid in the development of insight.
Bilateral Stimulation in the treatment of grief and trauma is an effective and often rapid treatment approach. I also use Guided Afterlife Connections as a means to facilitating a connection between the patient and the deceased using Bilateral Stimulation techniques that assist in the reduction of sadness and other disturbing emotions associated with the death of a loved one. This technique is generally completed in one day and sessions are most commonly scheduled on Friday.
I have been in private practice since 1994. I provide general clinical psychology services including treating common human conditions such as depression, anxiety, eating disorders, grief, trauma, PTSD, marital conflicts, deployment related issues, infertility issues, women's developmental issues, and many more. I also provide psychological evaluations to assist in determining disability, custody issues, cognitive and academic abilities, attention issues, and personality issues. I have specialized in health psychology for many years and have recently expanded my training to include EMDR (Bilateral Stimulation), and Repair and Reattachment Grief Therapy as a way to treat trauma and grief and loss issues. I also provide Guided Afterlife Connections which also involves the use of Bilateral Stimulation and has been proven effective in treating Veterans and people who have lost loved ones a year or more ago.
