My philosophy of clinical practice is an expansion of my change process, and my ability to be deeply present in my life. As an observer, participant, instructor, and friend, I encourage growth, acceptance, and choice. The closeness of the therapy relationship offers vital learning and application for intimacy, introspection, internal and external change. I view the therapeutic relationship largely as a time-limited friendship, in which the therapist is present as the client explores her or his deepest life predicaments. I like what Irvin Yalom, M.D., writes, Psychotherapy is not a substitute for life but a dress rehearsal for life. I offer my clients authenticity, acceptance, and appreciation. I consider the therapeutic relationship as curative, and the presence of both the therapist and client as essential in the healing process. My task is to provide a safe environment for an individual to reveal himself or herself as fully as possible.
