Barbara Henricks, MDIV
Addiction hurts. I have spent the past twenty-five years working with those whose lives have been affected by their own or someone else's' substance abuse. There is hope. People can and do recover, restoring freedom to their lives, every day. Even so, it often feels like things will never change. My goal as your provider is to help you through the necessary losses and transitions of recovery so that you can create the life you want. A life that feels better. I am currently involved in professional training that will integrate my experience in addiction recovery with it's underpinnings in attachment and trauma. Specific to this is the use of infra-slow neurofeedback and other body-centered therapies (such as yoga) to precipitate deeper healing. Sober Yogis Groups and Community I am a co-founder of Sober Yogis. Sober Yogis is committed to providing a safe community for individuals seeking sobriety to experience themselves and their recovery in a new way. Using the healing method of Bikram Hatha yoga combined with weekly group support facilitated by licensed clinicians specializing in addiction recovery, our goal is to join together, to increase physical health and a greater sense of well being in relationship with other recovering yogis. Sober Yogis 8 Week Challenge The Sober Yogis Challenge is an 8 week challenge that incorporates an intensive yoga practice with weekly group support. Participants are challenged to take 5 yoga classes a week and attend one therapy group with their peers. Participants who complete the challenge receive one month of free unlimited yoga. Program Cost 8 Weeks Unlimited Yoga: $200.00 (Bikram Yoga Epping or Bikram Yoga Portsmouth) Weekly Group Support is billed separately (self-pay and health insurance options available). Sober Yogis Next Level Throw Down Individuals completing the initial intensive 8-week challenge participants are invited to take their progress to the next level. Weekly ongoing Sober Yogis support groups build on the powerful combination of a regular yoga practice for increased health and well being by continuing to build community with other recovering yogis.

Barbara Henricks' Care Philosophy

There are so many ways to heal and feel better about life that we don't even know them all. More methods are being discovered every day. I am here to help with whatever goal you have for coming in. If I do not feel that I can help you with your stated goal, I will help you find a provider who can. I am not a provider who is going to sit in the chair and humm and nod back at you. I believe that the purpose of therapy is to facilitate growth in self-acceptance and self-awareness. Of course there are consequences of personal growth that may be painful at first, but growing pains ultimately lead to a more purposeful and joyful life. If you are interested in an active, motivating and challenging provider, please call me.

Barb is a diamond in the rough as far as counselors go. I had been to 20 counselors in my lifetime and she is the only one that has helped me tremendously in the last two years. She is like having a life coach. She doesn't sit and nod her head and yes you and ask you what do you think, she gives you action steps and resources to help yourself and improve your life and happiness and does it with a sense of humor and compassion. She is amazing at reading people and her direct style rocks! A+

I would recommend Barbara, she is very friendly and makes your sessions go by very fast. She's incredibly helpful in providing information about substance abuse and since going to her I haven't had the same urges to drink as I did prior to seeing her.

Barbara has helped me in the past and present, her counseling is like no other that I have experienced,I have learned a lot from her and the fact that she shoots from the hip and dosent sugar coat your own crap is a plus, though her personality in the mix is what helps me to relate to the problem in hand, she offers her help and time after class if needed, she truly does care and I respect that...besides her knowledge she truly understands were im coming from and treats me as a person not a number.

My experience with Barb is hard to articulate, as I am just able to live the experience authentically without analyzing it. As a young woman in the world, it has been invaluable to have Barb and Jess leading myself and our group to be the best people we can be, and I feel all the support I need to do so.
Lay back personality that works very well with addiction. No judgement very understanding. She loves life

Barbara Dugan Henricks, M.Div. M.L.A.D.C., S.A.P.

I have specialized as a substance abuse clinician since 1991.  I received a Master's Degree from Yale University in 1988. I had clinical training at Yale-New Haven Hospital and later began a career as a substance abuse clinician at The Yale Psychiatric Institute and as a research associate for the Department of Psychiatry at Yale Medical School in the area of addiction prevention and treatment. As a research associate at Yale Medical School, I worked on several projects, including the development of a medical detoxification protocol for opiate dependence.  I have also worked collaboratively to develop models for outpatient and hospital-based intensive outpatient programs.  I have enjoyed a broad range of experience working with adults, families, and adolescents at all levels of ASAM care.
