Duke is a unique place for maternal fetal medicine care because it offers great technology and the newest developments in research but does so with a kind and caring heart and hand. Often when women seek care they want great expertise. But they also want to be cared for by people who truly show them that they care about the outcome of their pregnancy and as human beings can identify with the situations they see with our patient population. I was born and raised on a tobacco farm in eastern North Carolina. Who would have ever thought a little farm girl could be in a beautiful medical center caring for people who come from where I came from? I dont want to forget where I came from because the people I see return to their communities and often face such great adversities and barriers to care. I dont want to forget what people go home to and where they come from because it makes me very mindful of the things that people traverse every day to get to us. I stay here because I believe I make a difference.
