I am provisionally licensed counselor in the State of Wyoming. I have a Masters in Community Mental Health Counseling from Chadron State College in Chadron, Nebraska. I also have a Masters in Spiritual Formation and Discipleship from Moody Theological Seminary in Chicago, Illinois and am currently finishing a Masters of Divinity from there as well. I have been a Chaplain at Cheyenne Regional for two years primarily working with families and individuals in crisis and experiencing trauma and have recently spent time working with families under the direction of Dr. Richard Berry at Youth Alternatives in Cheyenne, Wyoming. My clinical work is marked with compassion. I believe that therapy is most beneficial if you can freely express your thoughts, beliefs, feelings, and deepest struggles without feeling judged or anxious, and my goal is to create a counseling climate and setting that is characterized by a sense of safety, unconditional positive regard and respect for my clients' values systems. My foundational approach to therapy is client-centered, solution-focused, narrative driven and based in family systems. While I am a generalist and work with a broad range of clients, my particular areas of interest are in working with families and couples, providing marriage-enrichment and communication skills, and specifically working with men's issues, anger and anxiety. I find immense satisfaction in helping people identify the behaviors that are negatively affect their lives and relationships with others, and I find that I naturally tend to bring an awareness to the other voices and instincts in our lives that tug at our hearts and help foster an ability to communicate with constructive and compelling reasonableness. In addition to the areas of interest I mentioned, I also have competency in Christian Counseling and "soul care." I can, if desired, effectively integrate your faith in God and His Word into your therapeutic journey. In my personal life, the ability to show Christ's love in this world is my greatest joy and challenge. I was born in Canada and raised in Southern Africa and had a very difficult childhood and home environment. Since moving away and finding my path, I have been married to the Love of my Life for eleven years, and we are the sometimes-exasperated-but-mostly-outrageously-happy parents of three children. One of the most unexpected journeys in my life has been with our youngest son. His heart stopped only a few days after he was born, resulting in significant disabilities including cerebral palsy. In every way, he is one of the most precious human-beings I have had the privilege to meet. Through my varied life experiences, I have often been given the situations, background, training, and sense of compassion and understanding that has ultimately allowed me to care for some of the most deeply wounded among us. Thank you for showing interest in my short biography, and I would love the opportunity to work with you in your time of need.
