Aguilera, MD, FAAO, FAAP Pediatric Ophthalmologist Dr. Aguilera is employed by Pediatric Specialists of America (PSA), the physician-led group practice of Miami Children's Health System. She is a pediatric ophthalmologist within the Division of Ophthalmology at Nicklaus Children's Hospital, as well as a voluntary pediatric ophthalmology clinical assistant professor at Florida International University's Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine. Dr. Aguilera earned her medical degree with a "Golden Seal Award" for academic achievement from the Higher Institute of Medical Service in Santiago de Cuba, Cuba. She later completed a residency in ophthalmology with honors at the same institution. Dr. Aguilera served as an instructor professor in pediatric ophthalmology at Juan M. Marquez Pediatric Hospital in Havana before moving to the U.S. She then completed her residency and a pediatric residency in ophthalmology at Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx, New York; followed by a fellowship in pediatric ophthalmology at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh/University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC). Her clinical interests include cataract surgery, strabismus surgery and amblyopia treatment. Dr. Aguilera is board certified in general pediatrics and ophthalmology. She is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), American Association of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus (AAPOS), and the Florida Society of Ophthalmology (FOS). Her work has been published in peer-reviewed journals and she has presented at both national and international conferences.
