Dr. Pride's bio

This content was provided by Dr. Pride "I am a board certified interventional cardiologist. My primary goal is the care of the patient. I try to treat them as if they were family. I went into medicine because I loved science and because of an illness in the family that let me see how important a physician can be in someone's life. I attended medical school at the Boston University School of Medicine and completed my Internal Medicine residency and fellowships in Cardiovascular Disease and Interventional Cardiology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, a major teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School. Since then, I have been a practicing interventional cardiologist at Gwinnett Medical Center. I specialize in radial artery catheterization, a procedure in which I use the wrist artery, rather than the groin artery, to perform cardiac catheterization. This is associated with higher patient satisfaction, lower bleeding risk and hospital costs and shorter hospital stays than the use of the groin artery. In patients having a heart attack, this has even been associated with a lower risk of death. I also enjoy advanced procedures that allow us to open chronic total occlusions, or total blockages of the arteries that feed the heart. Many patients with such blockages have been told there is nothing that can be done for them other than open heart surgery, and so they suffer from easy fatigue, shortness of breath and chest pains. Emerging technologies now allow us to open these blockages without the need for surgery. Finally, I love to learn, teach and pass along knowledge to younger physicians. I have taken an active teaching role with the growing Internal Medicine residency program at Gwinnett Medical Center."

Care Philosophy

This content was provided by Dr. Pride "My philosophy is patient centered. I strive to put the patient's health, comfort and goals first. I specialize in radial artery catheterization, using the small artery in the wrist to perform coronary angiograms and interventions. This is associated with a lower risk of bleeding, shorter hospital stay and improved patient comfort, allowing the patient to sit up immediately after the procedure. I am board certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology. My interests lie in taking care of patients with a broad range of cardiovascular conditions, but I have a particular interest in coronary angioplasty and stenting and advanced percutaneous techniques for chronic total occlusions and structural heart disease, including aortic stenosis, atrial septal defects and patent foramen ovales."
