Biography

William Wood, MD

After completing his undergraduate and medical school education at the University of Kentucky College Of Medicine and his residency at the prestigious Wilmer Ophthalmological Institute Johns Hopkins University, Dr. Wood was awarded the Heed Fellowship at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary (Harvard University). He strongly considered returning to the Wilmer Institute as faculty, but chose instead to return to his home in Lexington. As a part-time faculty member of the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Kentucky, he was promoted to Clinical Professor and developed the Retina subspecialty division at the university. Dr. Wood is proud to serve on the Board of Governors of his alma mater, the Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. He is recognized in the "Best Doctors in America" and "American's Top Ophthalmologists".

Retina Associates of Kentucky's renowned physicians and their highly trained, caring staff diagnose and treat many retina disorders, with specialization in retinal detachments, macular degeneration, diabetes-related conditions, floaters, histoplasmosis and uveitis.

Dr. Wood says...

Our physicians have over forty years of experience in vitreoretinal surgery and perform more surgical procedures than any other practice in Kentucky. They regularly educate other physicians regionally and nationally on surgical procedures, and consistently bring the latest in surgical techniques and instrumentation to our operating rooms to improve our patients' vision and quality of life.

While Dr. Wood no longer performs procedures in the surgical operating room, he does many in-office procedures and can address many of our patients' conditions at their office visit. If he believes a procedures in the operating room is necessary, he coordinate the patients' care with his surgical partners
