I retired from the University of Kentucky in 2009 and opened the Cardinal Hill Pain Institute. This is a solo practice and my reason for making this career change at the age of 63 was to see how close I could get to an ideal medical practice. From the details of design and construction to the quality of the staff and equipment and to the overall patient experience, this has been and remains my goal. Accordingly, I encourage ongoing evaluation and improvement.

      Why Does Experience Matter?

Even specialists specialize. One orthopedic surgeon might do nothing but hip surgeries, while another does nothing but knees. If you want the best possible care, it’s critical to match your medical need with the doctor who truly specializes in treating it.

      Dr. Witt's Care Philosophy

I use a rehabilitative approach. I do not prescribe or recommend the use of opioids ("narcotics") for the treatment of chronic non-malignant pain.

      ×

      Dr. Witt says...

I have practiced in the field of interventional pain medicine continuously since 1978. Having myself experienced a spinal injury, I am intimately familiar with the challenges presented by a chronic painful condition.

I founded and directed the Pain Management Fellowship at the University of Kentucky wherein I trained 35 fellows, all of whom are Board Certified in the field.

I serve and have served as a consultant for multiple private, government and corporate entities both nationally and internationally, and have been involved in the personal medical care of two heads of state.

      ×

      Dr. Witt says...

I have performed over 50,000 interventional procedures and have never had a permanent patient injury or malpractice claim.
