Dr. William Ritchie IV, MD
Dr. William Ritchie is an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in injuries and conditions of the shoulder and knee, occupational medicine, sports medicine and trauma at New Mexico Orthopaedics. His approach to all forms of treatment, including surgical methods, is conservative in nature. Dr. Ritchie strongly believes in treating the whole person rather than focusing solely on the injury or condition. He views each patient as an athlete in his or her own right—an individual who needs to "get back in the game" at full capacity, whether that activity is work, play or life in general. He enjoys the hands-on opportunity to use his knowledge and skills to fix injuries and return people to a full and active lifestyle. Prior to joining the team at New Mexico Orthopaedics, Dr. Ritchie proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and was Chief of Orthopaedic Surgery at Albuquerque's own Kirtland Air Force Base. He is also proud to be one of the first surgeons in the state of New Mexico to earn the Subspecialty Certificate in Sports Medicine from the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. In addition to being an avid skier, Dr. Ritchie enjoys cycling and running. He is also a novice auto racer.

Dr. Richie took care of my daughter;s ACL injury and my son's broken wrist and broken leg. He and his nurse Katherine (Catherine? Cathleen?) went above and beyond to explain, provide care and support, address all my concerns, and even performed my daughter's surgery on Dec 30th so she would recover over her Christmas break. He took care of my son's broken bones and was so good with him (he was in 5th grade at that time). I now need an Ortho doc and I will go to Dr. Ritchie if I can get in!
Melanie Tidman, we are very happy we could provide you with a positive experience! Please don't hesitate to reach out if there's anything additional we can do for you.

Dr. Ritchie treated my daughter for a sport related injury during her cheer season. He was very attentive and explained her injury to her as well as provided handouts and exercises to ensure her return to cheer promptly. He is very attentive and caring and does focus on the whole patient not just the injury. On our second appointment we saw his PA Micah, he was great, friendly and very informative as well. I would recommend him to my friends and family! Thank you Dr. Ritchie and staff.
Happy Mom, we're so glad that we were able to go above and beyond your expectations! Your recommendation means so much to us and we're so happy to have earned it. Thank you again for taking the time to let the world know about your positive experience. Have a great day!

My child had a 3:40 with Dr. Richie.. Checked in at 3:10. We sat in reception & then again in an exam room for an eternity. Not once, did anyone come in to apologize for the long wait, or to offer any sort of estimate of how much longer it'd be.. Approximately 5:10, my kid was finally seen. Dr. Richie came in with absolutely no acknowledgement of how long we were sitting there.. He didn't seem to give a crap. He spent 10 minutes with my kid.. Very unprofessional. Will never go back...
Celia, we regret that you had a negative experience with us, but are glad you brought this to our attention. We strive to give our patients the best medical care and service. We are always looking for ways to improve so thank you for bringing this to our attention. NMOA

Unlike some of the other reviews - We were very pleased with the treatment that I received from Dr Ritchie. He spent almost an hour with us explaining the procedure and answering all of our questions. He was courteous and professional and was very empathetic. We would quickly recommend him to anyone needing orthopedic services.

Scheduled to see him and waited 1.5 hours before PA came in and assessed my daughter. Never got to see Dr Ritchie. Unacceptable!!!!
