Accepting new patients
Dr. Long has trained at some of the most prestigious schools and hospitals in the country, including Jefferson, Yale, Hospital for Special Surgery, NY-Presbyterian, and Memorial Sloan Kettering. He has made the practice of spinal surgery his main focus. After years in Philadelphia, New Haven, and New York City, he has moved to the Manhattan suburbs in northern New Jersey, and now operates primarily at Hackensack University Medical Center. His award winning achievements throughout his career highlight his dedication to excellent patient care, evidence based medicine, and optimal surgical outcomes. Dr. Long believes in the importance of rigorous medical education, and as such continues to publish book chapters and scholarly journal articles focused on spinal disease and treatment, and teaches the next generation of doctors from multiple medical schools.
Dr. Long's philosophy on patient care centers on the doctor-patient relationship. Despite rigorous hours and focus on surgery, he understands the gravity of patient autonomy, and the need to tailor a treatment plan that works for his patients. Commonly, surgery is never the first option without first exploring all of the non-surgical treatments available. When surgery is indicated, an emphasis on minimizing the surgical footprint is made, thus Dr. Long will perform robotic and minimally invasive spinal surgery when possible. His expertise in the field of spinal surgery has led him to participation, committee, and leadership positions within national and international spinal conferences and surgical associations
