Dr. Deegan, who graduated with honors from Tufts University (degrees in English and Biology), continued at Tufts School of Medicine where he received his Doctor of Medicine. His post-doctoral training started with an internship in the Department of Medicine at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, Massachusetts and was followed by, a residency in Ophthalmology at the New England Eye Center, Tufts University School of Medicine. He then completed two fellowships: one in Vitreoretinal Diseases and Surgery at Washington Hospital Center, and another in Ocular Oncology and Pediatric Retinal Diseases and Surgery at Doheny Eye Institute and Childrens Hospital Los Angeles, both major affiliates of the University of Southern California School of Medicine. Board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, Dr. Deegan is licensed to practice in Virginia, Maryland and Washington, D.C. He is affiliated with Children's National Medical Center, Washington Hospital Center, Georgetown University Hospital, Virginia Hospital Center and Sibley Memorial Hospital. Dr. Deegan is a member of numerous professional societies and organizations, and has contributed articles to more than 20 publications. He has helped develop courses, made major presentations and participated in a myriad of research studies, all of which has earned him honors for both community service and teaching.
