Dr. Bargar says...

I trained initially as an aeronautical and mechanical engineer with a masters degree in both. After college and a 4 years in the Navy, I decided to go to medical school. I became an orthopaedic surgeon specializing in hip and knee replacement. I was recruited to Sacramento by UC Davis and spent 5 years there as an assistant professor. I went into private practice in 1986 at Sutter General Hospital. I had a private practice dedicated exclusively to hip and knee replacement surgery as well as treatment of failed joint replacements. I performed over 7000 of those procedures over my career. I have a keen interest in computer-aided surgery and I developed a surgical robot called ROBODOC.  I retired from surgical practice at the end of 2014. I continue to see patients in follow-up for their joint replacements as well as evaluate new patients with arthritis of the hip or knee as well as patients with painful joint replacements.
