William Ackerman, MD, is a board-certified internal medicine doctor. He provides primary care for adults, including preventive care, diagnosis, and treatment of acute and chronic diseases. Dr. Ackerman treats adults through the concierge medicine program at UC San Diego Health. Concierge medicine is a primary care option that requires an annual fee and offers enhanced services, extended amenities and 24/7 access.As a professor in the Department of Medicine since 1999, Dr. Ackerman is involved in training medical students, residents and fellows at UC San Diego School of Medicine.Prior to joining UC San Diego Health, he practiced more than 20 years of hospital and intensive care medicine at Scripps La Jolla and Scripps Encinitas.Dr. Ackerman completed his residency and fellowship training at UC San Diego School of Medicine. He earned his medical degree at State University of New York Buffalo School of Medicine. He is board-certified in internal medicine, geriatric medicine and pulmonary disease. Dr. Ackerman is the recipient of numerous awards, including an Alumni Association Award from State University of New York School of Medicine and the Maimonides Medical Society Award. He has repeatedly been recognized as a top doctor in San Diego Magazine’s “Physicians of Exceptional Excellence" annual survey performed in collaboration with the San Diego County Medical Society.Outside of work, Dr. Ackerman enjoys hiking in the nearby desert areas with his wife. He has also trained in traditional karate for many years and has a seventh-degree black belt.
