Dr. Carlson did a spinal fusion and I was recovering nicely. I suddenly developed arm and leg weakness along with some other serious health problems. He admitted me to the hospital and he and his team of experts diagnosed a serious infection of the central nervous system (Guillaine Barre Syndrome). Without Dr. Carlson’s expertise and medical knowledge, i most likely would have landed in a nursing home. I am so thankful for Dr. Carlson’s medical expertise and care.

I'm experiencing a somewhat complicated and rare issue and was hoping Dr. Carlson could help to identify the source of my pain and appropriate treatment. Nope. He only wanted to discuss surgical options, even during my first appointment. A follow-up to review my MRI was not a review- just more surgery discussion. I later found out, via my radiology report, that my MRI showed a bulged lumbar disc- Dr. Carlson hadn't even addressed it. I do NOT recommend him and frankly I consider him dangerous.

I have been treated with high respect as Dr. Carlson and his staff listen to my concerns, not just for surgery but for follow up care. They always ask if I have questions and are very good at explaining the procedure to take place and what I can expect after a procedure for pain, care and recovery. LISTENING is a big plus for me and they do that well. Always on the ball for scheduling follow up appointments as well. Very friendly staff. Thank you - could not ask for better!!!

My back surgery was 2 months ago, and it seems to be going well. Before the surgery I was in pain most of the time. Happily I can say that is no longer a concern. Dr. Carlson did a wonderful job. You always hear about the not so good results, but I can honestly say I am very pleased. He kept me informed about what was going on and always pleasant and helpful. Recovery is a long process, but results are worth it. Thanks to all... Dr.Carlson, Carlson's PA, nurses and staff..

I'm totally satisfied with how i was treated at OI. during my time in the Navy, i was required to relieve the watch and report for duty 15 minutes ahead of the hour. as a result, I usually arrive at least 15 minutes before any appointment, so waiting time is my fault. I don't mind. my treatment by the staff? perfect; like i'm part of the family; couldn't be better or more caring. i appreciate that. and both medical staff and office staff are most supportive and helpful. thank y'all for all that.

A very professional and understanding orthopedic surgeon who will seek the counsel of places like Mayo. He is very current with his profession. Once you're his patient he's very willing to see you for any future needs. He has a staff and a great PA.

Walt is a good surgeon...very competent. However he is not a great conversationalist and has a poor bedside manner. You generally wait a while to see him. That being said....He is better than anyone over at Sanford....

My husband went to Dr Carlson for back pain. Dr Carlson noticed something unusual on the MRI and conferred with another specialist, who confirmed kidney cancer. Within a week, surgery was scheduled to remove it before spreading further. It was caught just in time. Dr Carlson's holistic attention to the MRI assessment, in addition to connecting us immediately to a kidney surgeon, helped save my husband's life. In other matters, Dr Carlson has proven to be timely, personable, competent.
